Through our practice of meditation, we learn the power of concentration. We are developing the ability to focus on what is important. Staying mindful of the moment we can choose which phenomenon we focus on. Sometimes it is just the breath, at others it is the experience that is going on around us, or maybe it is our present task. To concentrate on that which is at hand is an ability that grows with use. It is the power to stay on an even keel in the midst of anything that is happening. It will arise only from practice, from return attention and again and again to the object of concentration. It will grow and become a beacon leading the way from right view and right thinking; from right mindfulness to right action.
